photos of my ’75

Sep 14, 2007

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while and finally got around to it: Showing some more photos of my ’75 Buick.

Most of these shots are on the interior. If you want to see exteriors, there are plenty on the BuickFreeSpirit.com web site.

With that said, here goes.

my-75-1

Above: This is one part of the car that honestly frightened me. The entire underside under the tail lights is black rubber; the sides are white rubber. The passenger side white rubber is almost completely gone. However, as fortune would have it, restoration shops custom mold new rubber pieces all the time, so this shouldn’t be too difficult to replace.

my-75-2

Above: Dashboard view. It is very trick that this Buick has 60′s-style round rally-ish gauges instead of the awful horizontal speedometer (something very common of many 70′s cars.)

my-75-3

Above: Yes, she does have cruise control.

my-75-4

Above: I’ve made mention of this clock several times in the past. It’s a true-blue mechanical ticking clock. Obviously it doesn’t work right now and the clock motor will have to be replaced. The stalk to adjust the time (see lower left) is missing. I will most likely have to have one custom made. Being that it’s not a vital part of the car, if the new stalk doesn’t look exactly original, it won’t bother me that much. :)

my-75-5

Above: The speedometer. What’s interesting about it is that the gear indicator is there (and still works!), the turn signal lights are there and the 90 and 100mph lettering is flipped. And in case you’re wondering, the odometer has been around the block.

my-75-6

Above: The gauges next to the speedometer. Even though there are two “idiot lights” in the display, for a ’75 this car had a dashboard that told you much more compared to other cars of the time.

my-75-7

Above: The HVAC controls. This design was a staple across all domestic car designs well into the 80′s. And to be honest, it’s the design that makes the most sense because you can adjust it without looking at it – even while driving.

my-75-8

Above: Headlight control, wiper control and rear defogger control.

my-75-9

Above: Center vents, glove box and passenger side vent.

my-75-10

Above: The only part of the car that identifies it as a Century. On no other part of the car (interior or exterior) is there any identifying model emblem, save for this one.

Nice car, I had one when I was 16 years old and sold it to a kid who painted it blue. I’ve got pictures I could sent you sometime. By the way there is 1 of the 2 445 engine pace cars in Cannon Falls, Minnesota I was lucky enough to drive it and get some real good photos of. Someday I’m going to try to find another one. Thanks for listening. Tom
