Star Trek voice file for Garmin StreetPilot c5xx and nuvi models
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Check out the new nuvi 205 Power Manual – it lists all the stuff Garmin forgot!

I finally figured out how to create a custom voice file for my StreetPilot so I figured I’d share it with the world.
VERY-OBVIOUS DISCLAIMER: If you screw up your StreetPilot or nuvi from the use of this file – it’s your fault, not mine. I won’t be held responsible if you break your mobile GPS unit.
In addition: Installing a custom voice at this point in time IS NOT EASY. If you can’t get this to work, I will not field installation questions.
The only voice file I have “translated” is American English. That’s it.
This voice file only works on GPS units that mount a drive letter in Windows when plugged in via USB. This means it absolutely will not work on StreetPilot c3xx models; Only 5xx or nuvi’s.
Here’s a video of the voice file in action!

To install:
1. Download sttng.vpm for $3.95 US (Note: It’s highly recommended you bookmark this web page so you can come back here for installation instructions – you’ll need them.)
2. Plug your StreetPilot/nuvi into your computer.
3. Go to the directory \Garmin\voice from the mounted drive letter. See figure 1.

Figure 1
4. Highlight English_American_.vpm and rename to English_American_.vpm-backup - See figure 2.

Figure 2
5. Copy the sttng.vpm file to \Garmin\voice – See figure 3.

Figure 3
6. RENAME sttng.vpm to English_American_.vpm – See figure 4.

Figure 4
7. Boot the StreetPilot/nuvi and select the language as American English (If it was already selected previously you don’t need to do anything).
You’re done at this point.
I would only suggest you turn “Attention Tone” to “on” for best effect.
If at any time you want to go back to the default voice file, delete American_English_.vpm and rename American_English_.vpm-backup to American_English.vpm
I cannot stress enough to backup your original file first.
Again I will state, I WILL NOT FIELD QUESTIONS concerning installation or usage. And remember, if you mess up your StreetPilot or nuvi, I will not be held responsible.

Nice now you just need to make a LCars theme :)
Hey is there any way to get this on a Tom Tom model? My husband and I are huge fans of the star trek computer. Is that Roddenberry? That is too cool.
Unfortunately no, I don’t have a TomTom GPS of any kind so I don’t know how to program for it. Otherwise I’d put one together. :)
