5 reasons Target is better than Wal-Mart

I had to pick up an SD card for my Wii the other day, so I hopped in the truck and started driving on down to Wal-Mart. Almost directly across the street from the one that's closest to me is a Target. Being it was the weekend and I knew Wal-Mart was going to be mobbed with people, I made the quick decision to go to Target instead.

Here are the things I notice about Target that are better than Wal-Mart.

1. Less people.

This does mean that Target doesn't command as much traffic, but as a shopper this is a huge sigh of relief because I don't have to constantly dodge people just to get to where I want to go.

2. Better signage.

Signs in Target make way more sense and it's much easier to find stuff, both for the big and little signs.

3. Wider aisles.

Plenty of room and easy to get around.

4. Uses an old-school department store formula that just plain works.

Target reminds me of how K-Mart used to be. A lot. And that's not a bad thing. The way in which the store is designed is in fact the best possible way to do it.

Quick retail history notes:

Department stores found their optimum design in the 1980s. Ever since then there have been many chains that have tried to shake things up by changing stuff around constantly. This is done by rotating the grid, purposely putting things in your way in the middle of aisles in an attempt to sell things you ordinarily wouldn't be shopping for, and so on. All of this sucks.

What works is a plain grid layout that does not change. This gives the consumer a sense of familiarity and will bring them back again and again.

Wal-Mart constantly shifts the grid. It annoys the crap out of me as does everybody else who shops there because just when you thought you knew the store, surprise! It changes. And it will change again in a few weeks. Oh, joy.

5. Better-looking people and hotties.

The overall look of people who shop at Target is just better. Rarely (at least where I am) do you see ragged-looking folks. People are dressed properly.

In addition, college girls love shopping at Target. Whenever I go there I see cute USF girls with hot asses wearing short-shorts. This is far better than the slovenly degenerates of society I see at Wal-Mart (and yes they are ALWAYS there).

Being in the company of people who can dress themselves properly does make for a better shopping experience.
