windows 11, now slightly less terrible than it used to be
2025 Jan 30

I said recently that Windows 10 will be dead in October. Although my primary computer runs Linux, I do keep a separate Windows laptop for "runs only on Windows" specific stuff. It runs Windows 10. Or rather, it used to. Now it runs Windows 11. It's a bone stock install with the latest version. Thankfully, […]

windows 10 will be officially dead by october 2025
2025 Jan 28

Did you know Windows 10 was originally released July 29, 2015? At the time I write this, that was nine-and-a-half years ago. And if you didn't know, Microsoft's official end-of-support date for Win10 is October 14, 2025. This does make me wonder if there will be a repeat of what happened to WinXP users when […]

my boomer car of choice, late '80s personal luxury car
2025 Jan 23

I don't own a car like this, but I'd like to because it speaks to my middle aged sensibilities now. What is a personal luxury car? A two-door luxury sport coupe that has some size to it. There's the traditional four-door luxury sedan, but the luxury sport coupe is the smaller version of that and […]

how i defeat bad directions
2025 Jan 21

Many moons ago back in the late 2000s, a Garmin nuvi was (and I would argue still is) the best thing to use for GPS navigation. However, I identified a problem. For certain locations, the destination was marked wrong. Sometimes what was supposed to be on the right side of the street was on the […]

recovering from eating like crap during december
2025 Jan 16

During December 2024, I did not do well concerning what I ate. In fact, I ate a whole ton of garbage until very-early January 2025. I made a New Year's Resolution to stop eating the garbage, and so far it has been going mostly well.

i don't like the taste of straight water
2025 Jan 14

I do drink water, but in order for me to get past the taste, I have to "put my mind aside" for a moment, then chug it. The only time I don't have to do that is on really hot days where getting water in my system is more important than the taste of it. […]

it's no wonder why people hate new cars
2025 Jan 9

If you want to know why so many people hate new cars so much, just look at the steering wheel. Yeah, I am middle aged. Yeah, that means I have a bias towards older things because that's what I know best. But when it comes to cars, there's absolutely no question that the older stuff […]

i wish i knew about neti pots years ago
2025 Jan 7

The older I get, the more I learn about stuff. It didn't take long after 2025 began before I got my first cold of the year, and I have a standard list of things I do to make dealing with that easier. This is stuff I wish I knew when I was younger, but better […]

my ups and downs with usb
2025 Jan 2

When I first started using PCs as a kid, there were only two portable storage formats. Tape (as in microcassette) and floppies (as in floppy diskettes). That was it. Tape was way too slow, so I used floppies, and I always hated them.
