General bits of advice to make your life easier

  • Learn to back up ALL contacts, ALL messages, ALL photos and ALL videos from your phone to a USB stick. If you don't, you WILL lose them. Do NOT trust "the cloud" with your data. Back up LOCALLY.
  • A cheap Casio wristwatch (especially the type with a "10 year battery") will outlast any smartphone.
  • The fastest and easiest way to jot a note is on a cheap memo pad.
  • Use pencils to jot down notes with and a manual pencil sharpener to sharpen pencils with. You never have to worry about running out of ink, nor do you need to worry about replacing batteries in the sharpener since it's manually operated.
  • If you need to remember the name/brand/type of something you bought (example: a specific laundry detergent), take a photo of the package with your phone and mark it as a "favorite" in your phone's photo gallery app.
  • If you need to remember where you parked in a large parking lot, again, take a reference photo with your phone, then refer back to it when leaving the store so you can find your car.
  • For any really important documents you have, save them twice to two separate USB pendrives. And if it's super important, also print out a hard copy.
  • It is worth it to have a cheap compass and road atlas in your car. You may never have to use them, but if you ever do, you'll be very glad to have them.
  • Always get a paper receipt anywhere you shop. The paper receipt is sometimes the only thing you have to get a refund if need be, or be used to prove where you were at a specific date/time since all receipts have that information printed on them. (The date/time info can be confirmed where you made the purchase.)
