tastes like white grape

Thu 2007 Mar 1

I don't drink Monster Lo-Carb Energy Drink because of the lack of carbs. I drink it because it tastes good.

Ever since I started drinking this stuff, I've never been able to figure out what to classify the flavor as - until Pop had a sip of it. After he sipped it, he said Hm. Tastes like grape. He was almost right. Since the color of the soda is gold, it's actually white grape flavored.

busted dv port

Thu 2006 Dec 28

Hot tip: Don't leave your DV cable plugged into your camcorder.

Why? My camcorder fell over while it was on the tripod (don't ask), the FireWire cable was still plugged into it, it landed on the side the cable was plugged into (of course), and busted the DV port.

Blah.

Solution: Waste $215 and buy a new camcorder. The one I bought is a JVC GR-D350US. Compared to the old Canon ZR-200, this one has a ton more features, plus a cool little "snapshot" button to take pics with.

Honestly speaking, it's amazing what you get for the price these days. This should last a long time as long as I leave the FireWire cable out when not in use. :-)

My Garmin StreetPilot c340 is now equipped with a GlareStomper.

Sun glare was a problem for my GPS unit. I was faced with the decision of buying a newer StreetPilot with a "daylight readable screen" which would have cost almost $500, or buy a visor like the GlareStomper for fifteen bucks.

So yeah, I went with the 'Stomper. Now my GPS looks like Darth Vader (hence the title of this entry). The big question: Does it work? Yes, it does. It does stop the glare (mostly) and makes the screen much more readable in bright sunlight.

Thankfully it doesn't look that cheesy. :-) I'm glad they made this in black which mostly matches the look of the StreetPilot.

Installation was easy. Just stick on the velcro that comes with it and put the 'Stomper on top. Easy enough. Easy is good. :-)

this may save me over $400

One gripe I've had about the Garmin StreetPilot c340 since day one is that the screen glares like crazy when the sun hits it, making it almost unreadable. Especially in Florida sun. Now while it's true Garmin has (oh-so conveniently enough) introduced the c5* series which has a "daylight readable screen", I didn't exactly want to spend over 400 bucks just for a screen.

The solution is to get a visor. I found one on eBay that was selling for sixteen bucks. Yes, I know it's way too expensive just for a visor, but when you consider that it's either pony up the sixteen or spend 400+ for a new unit, the sixteen seems like a much better option. :-)

I have no idea whether this will work or not, but I figured it was worth the sixteen to find out. If it does in fact do what it claims (as in "dramatically reduce glare and increase visibility"), then hey, good deal, I won't have to buy a new StreetPilot. And if not, well, I won't cry a river over losing sixteen bucks. :-)
