It came from the '90s: WAAF Unusual Suspects 1996
Rock radio is dead, so I archived the disc and its imagery.
I have to say first that Windows Media Player 12 rips CDs better than anything else. It's incredibly easy, and you can batch-rip a disc all in one go. You can use file formats WAV, WMV, MP3, or even FLAC! Very nice. If you're going to rip a disc, use WMP 12. Yes, you could use VLC or maybe something else, but for batch-ripping, it doesn't get any better than WMP. Just had to say that first, because for any of you out there that want to rip a CD, now you know what to use to get the job done.
FM rock radio stations are dead as a doorknob. Yes, that's a harsh thing to say, but it's true. It's also true that radio station CD releases like Unusual Suspects hardly have any presence on the internet at all.
Part of the reason I bought the WAAF disc is because absolutely nobody has ever posted the whole thing on the internet. On YouTube, I could only find two tracks from this disc and that was it. The entire rest of the disc had never been uploaded anywhere.
I ripped the disc, got scans of the artwork and have them all saved. I may upload the audio to Internet Archive later. For now, at least I got everything ripped, scanned and archived.
It's not that Unusual Suspects is a master work or anything like that. But it is a part of broadcast FM radio history. The '90s wasn't the Golden Age of Radio, but again, it was the last decade where FM radio mattered.
I'm glad to have my copy.
